This talk presents four curatorial projects developed in different contexts: Art(e)facts (Beira Interior), Fertile Futures (Venice Architecture Biennale), The Future is Now (Expo Osaka), and Metabolisms of Repair (London Design Biennale).
The projects investigate how ecological and territorial regeneration is understood and practised, particularly in low-density territories where traditional knowledge is at risk. Art(e)facts works through collaborations between artists, architects and local artisans, focusing on processes of knowledge transmission, material practices and site-based engagement. The other projects extend these concerns into different formats and contexts, including exhibitions, installations and video-based works. Rather than proposing solutions, the work focuses on processes of repair, experimentation and observation, engaging with existing conditions, local knowledge and material cycles.
The talk reflects on the challenges of working across contexts and formats, and on the limits of temporary interventions when dealing with long-term environmental change. By bringing these projects together, it outlines an evolving practice that seeks to open questions and test possible directions.
Andreia Garcia is a PhD architect and researcher based in Portugal. Her work explores the relationship between architecture, territory and material processes, focusing on low-density territories and on practices of regeneration, reuse and ecological transition across different cultural and geographic contexts.
