This performance explores slime as a material and metaphor for connection between bodies, environments, and living systems. Inspired by the project Swiftly arose and spread around me, it draws on the idea of fluid matter as something that dissolves boundaries and invites different ways of thinking about material relationships.
Presented as a speculative skincare ritual set in 2200, the project imagines a future in which the physical substances have disappeared, leaving only their political and emotional traces. Through this absence, the work reflects on materiality not as a fixed object, but as something relational, unstable, and shaped by interdependence.
The installation considers how design might move beyond extractive relationships with the natural world by paying attention to forms of intelligence, exchange, and coexistence found in living systems. Through the imagery of organic flows and viscous matter, it proposes a reflection on how humans relate to more-than-human environments, and how design can participate in those relationships.
La cuarta piel is a collective merging design, research, and mediation through speculative, ecosystemic experimentation. Awarded the 2024 Arquia/innova Prize, the collective specializes in spatial design and researching programs. Their work, featured at La Casa Encendida Madrid, Festival Grec de Barcelona or IVAM València, activates environments to foster ongoing dialogue between media and their unique local environmental contexts.
