Played out in a not so distant future, the audience is invited to explore a world set on the aftermath of consumerist collapse. New consumer products are no longer manufactured for a few years now and existing stock started to be seen as raw material for new creations. Drifting away from consumer culture and leading the way for a maker and repair friendly future, if the past saw a world seduced by abundance of possession, the world today sees abundance in potential. The scenario is played out within the videogame Fortnite, using re-appropriated game assets and 3D scans from real locations in Lisbon. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this alternative speculation by exploring the map and interacting with its different elements.
What A Mess is an artist duo consisting of Pedro Gil Farias (he/him) and Hugo Pilate (he/him), subverting innovative technologies as means to explore how the digital and built environments inform each other. Their work has been showcased at WIP Festival, V2_, MSU, Octobre Numérique, Gaîté Lyrique and Mozilla Festival.
